Not a whole lot of color in this one but I like all the lines. There are a couple levels of horizontal lines that make me move across the picture and the runway dashed line takes me to the back of the picture. I also like that the light pole is so bright compared to the rest of the picture (complementary).

I don't particularly love this picture, but I do like the variety of textures. My opportunity for taking pictures this week was very limited, so here it is! In hindsight I would have shot it with a greater depth of field rather than down at f/2.8.

I originally wanted to submit a streetlight reflection image taken from the other side of Capitol Lake from this scene but was dissatisfied after seeing the images on the computer. This image provides a curved line from the walkway wall as well as some light reflection in the water.

I tried doing this one in AV at first but it wasn't dark enough for me, so I switch to M and got the shutter to 1/400th.

"Elements of Design" - Texture

I selected Texture for this photo because of the different types of plant life, as each plant has its own unique texture. This was taken on the Cascade Falls Trail at Lake Quinault. Shutter Speed 1/50, Fstop 5.6, ISO 200, WB Cloudy, Focal Lenght 66 mm.

This photo was one of several taken on Halloween night. The bottom photo is RAW.jpg with the "fill light" slider set at 75. The top photo is Jpg.jpg with the "lighten shadow" slider at 75 and "levels" slider at 1.3. The fill light slider was not available for jpg.

I have worked for a collectively run co-op for 20 years. This picture is taken in front of one of the stores where I work. After taking it I decided that I want to do a series of pictures of the bench throughout a month. Lots of things happen on and around this bench.
I have uploaded the jpeg version of the picture. I tried to work with the raw version in Picasa but it converted it to a jpeg. When I tried to open it in the Canon converter I was excited by the future raw possibilities but was not able to do what I wanted to with it yet. One of my projects this week is to learn more about the converter. I will also get a plug in for Gimp so that I can edit raw pictures in Gimp or I will break down and use that Costco coupon to get Photoshop elements.

I saw these guys this morning and could relate to their situation - I felt like it was pouring rain every time I went out this weekend! I only posted the converted raw because I couldn't get the jpg to adjust well at all. I accidently took this shot with the ISO way too high but was able to adjust the raw to something reasonable.

I spent a lot of time go over issues of RAW vs JPG and still am a bit confused. These two photos from the same exposure "should" be identical it seems to me. But on my system, the RAW photo looks much warmer. Haven't figured out why unless it is some of the settings in my RAW converter are set by default and I haven't figured out what they are yet. Grrrr!

Photos were shot at 33 mm, tungsten, f/8, ISO 100, shutter speed Bulb 7 secs. I did nothing to this photo except cropping out the rain spots.

The top photo was shot in RAW, the bottom in JPEG. It was very hard to get a shot because it started raining and getting water all over my lens.

I don't see any difference between the two photos.

This view has been part of my day for the past 27 years as I pass it on my way to and from work.

Lyell - Day in the Life

Some days I feel like a mushroom but on this day I just took a picture of one. So, here is a day in the short life of a musroom and a sign of change in the season and the shorter days to come.

Photos were taken with Cannon XTi and 70-300 lens Shutter speed 1/100 F8.0 ISO 100 Focal Length 130mm. No post processing exept to convert raw to jpg and resize.

I find the image taken in jpg to have richer colors.

Stephanie- A day in the life

I realized that if there is anything that I do consistantly, it's housework. So this best depicts 'a day in the life' for me. The top image is JPEG and the bottom is RAW converted to JPEG. I didn't retouch a thing including that annoying little piece of pocket lint that made its way onto the floor. The only thing that changed, is before I got the second shot in, my daughter took a couple of blankets out of the laundry basket. Otherwise, most everything is the same. One thing that I notice is based on what I see on my monitor, the RAW converted photo has the truest color.

"A Day in the Life"... Training

What a terrible day to take pictures. I was hoping to capture the Firefighters with more hose line work. But with all of the rain, I’m not sure why we even brought the apparatus. This picture shows a Firefighter tending hose for the crew inside the structure. This was takin on both RAW and JPEG.

Week 1- "A Day in the Life"

We have had the flu this week. All three of my boys spent the majority of the week like this. Now I'm sick too, ugh. I shot this picture with my Nikon D90 using the RAW+JPEG setting, but for some reason I only see the RAW images when I upload them to Aperture. I'm not sure where the JPEGs are. When I'm feeling better I'll try to figure it out. For now, here's the RAW version. I have not done many adjustments because I'm not sure what needs to be done (haven't had time to explore levels, sharpening, etc.).

Derek - A Day In The Life...

It took me awhile to decide how to represent "A Day In The Life" in a picture. I decided that I would show "A Day In The Life" of me and also decided that I couldn't do that in one picture. I decided that I would take a picture roughly every hour of the day while I was awake. Every hour or two I would stop and take a picture of something related to what I was doing. I combined them all into a single picture using Photoshop.

I didn't do any processing to the photos, I left them all as shot.

I didn't notice any difference besides the file size between the JPG and RAW files.
