Lines & Curves
Assignment - Picture Styles - Lyell
Field Trip 12/6/09 - Bill
I was not able to make the field trip on the 5th so I went with the other class on the 6th. Barbara wanted to show us more about capturing light and how much impact light changes can make on your photos. Here are 2 photos I took at the same spot.
They were both shot at f/8.0 ISO: 100 WB: Tungsten.
The first one was shot at 4:33 PM with a shutter speed of 3 seconds.
The second one was shot 30 minutes later at 5:03 PM with a shutter speed of 5 seconds.
As there was less daylight and more tungsten street lights the photo really warmed up but there was still a lot of light in the sky to give a nice dark blue color.

I took this picture because I liked the still water with the reflections of the boats in it. I was looking mainly at the lines, balance, and colors and later realized there is no real focal point in the image, except maybe the wooden house? I also like the colors and the business of all the lines juxtaposed with the stillness of the water.f/8

The wood carvings in the door with the light shining on it first caught my attention. Then I noticed the cool door pulls and the dark shadows behind them. I like all the neat shapes...lines and circles, highlights and shadows. f/8

Another boat image, again with no real focal point. Does that matter? I usually take pictures with a focal point in mind, but since I was only looking at shapes, light, shadows, textures, etc., I later realized there is no focal point... except maybe the larger boat on the left? Hmm, so much to think about. It would have been nice to have a graduated filter for this picture to help with the sky.f/8

I'm really glad others uploaded more than one photo because I was having a hard time deciding.

I really like biker santa here, mostly because of the brighter colors against the rusty metal and brown building. Also the feeling of motion.

I like this shot because I feel the motion, especially the second bike, and I like the reflection in the gas tank of the close bike.

Here I like the contrast between the official state building the fun christmas lights. Also the color of the lights and I enhanced the raw image to bring out the sky.

I actually went back the next day because I've been wanting to take a picture here. I like that the RR tracks lead me into the photo and so does the wall on the right. I like the colors of the writing on the wall and how they contrast the otherwise darker scene. I also changed the WB of the raw in the software to enhance the colors.

Field Trip & On Assignment
On the field trip I explored further working with light after being reminded of it by Barbra. I really liked the way the light was shining on this flag pole cord and the way it was wrapped around. After photographing it for a while the light changed and the sun was peeking through the trees and that is when I snapped this shot. I liked the monochromatic color scheme and the shape and form.
The next photograph is from the Toys for Tots riders. Not really sure how I got the shot but I believe I was on spot metering to get that dark background. Even though it's blurry I still liked the photo.
Third photo is from the homework. I experimented with my camera's photo styles. I decided since I don't ever shoot in b&w that I would give it a shot.
Sorry, I don't usually post so many pictures, but the third little collage is just for fun from our field trip full of surprises. "Our Field Trip with Barbra"
It was the Fifth of December and on the street.
The SPSCC Masters Class was on assignment you see.
A time and place was arranged to meet.
Sylvester Park was the place to be.
With camera and tripod in hand.
We went for a walk with assignments in hand.
Go practice the skills we’ve discussed in class.
In hopes we would become Master’s at last.
So off we went to practice our skills.
I’ll be at Starbucks to avoid the chills.
Upon your return will discuss what you have learned.
So continue to practice the things you’ve been taught.
And remember to post your very best shot.
Field Trip - Stephanie
f/5.0, center weighted metering, ISO 400, 116mm, daylight WB.
f/5.6, evaluative metering, -1 exposure comp, 100 ISO, auto WB.
f/7.1, evaluative metering, 200 ISO, shade WBI tried the different picture styles in a few of my shots and I don't see a big difference. I plan to continue to work with those.
I like the shot over the hill to the Port because of the variety. I think it provides good contrast in texture, shape, light, size, etc. There are many different lines in the reflection, the bank building, the port, and the trees. I like how the image shows the distance to the horizon.
The candy casts a nice shadow to the right since the sun is fairly low in the sky. And the reflection on the plastic shows that it is 3 dimensional. There is also shadows on teh rocks in the concrete.
In the final shot, I didn't know what I got until I got home. Like everyone else, I was basically snapping shot after shot. I decided to turn towards the sun in hopes of getting a slightly different shot than others. I was pleased when I saw this one. I can see the concentration on his face in the mirrors, and I really like the reflection in the back of his helmet.
PHOTOWALK 12-5
My field trip was limited to my living room (my Mom called it a "Museum") I'll post a few to give you an idea of what it's like. I have the Meta Data but don't know where to add it to each shot.
The first shot reflects EMOTION. This is Baxter, he is annoyed, and doesn't like the flash (f 7.1 1/5 awb iso 800)
The second show shows depth in layers 3D. The first layer, the lamp and ball, second the curtain and the third would be the blind. f 6.3 0.3 awb iso 800
the third shot shows more than 5 layers of grayscale f 6.3 0.3 awb iso 1600
The Fourth shows LINES f6.3 1/4 awb iso 800
